Bonyado U is a lodging facility where you can experience local life and culture, including the Nishimonai Bon Odori festival. This renovated 180-year-old merchant house, once home to the Shibayo family, one of Akita Prefecture’s oldest families, offers a comfortable space where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly.

・メゾネットルーム　藍染

築180年の商家「旧柴与家」を改修してつくられた、盆宿U。冬の積雪時にも行き来ができるよう、母屋と土蔵を大屋根で繋げた、日本有数の豪雪地帯・秋田県南特有の「内蔵」2棟を客室にリノベーションしました。

秋田県南の伝統的な染め技法を用いて手絞りでつくられる男女兼用の踊り衣装「藍染め浴衣」。こちらの部屋には旧柴与家の藍染め浴衣を特別に展示しています。一階にはミニキッチン付きのダイニングルームとバスルーム、ダイナミックな梁を臨む二階の寝室には藍染め浴衣とレコードプレイヤーを設え、盆踊りと共に刻まれてきた歴史を体感いただけます。

・Maisonette Room – Indigo Dye

Bonyado U was renovated from the 180-year-old merchant house, the “Kyu-Shibayo Family.” A large roof connects the main house and storehouse to allow for easy access during the winter snowfall. These two “kura-zukuri” buildings, unique to southern Akita Prefecture, one of Japan’s snowiest regions, have been renovated into guest rooms.

Indigo-dyed yukata, unisex dance costumes, are hand-dyed using traditional dyeing techniques from southern Akita Prefecture. This room features a special exhibition of indigo-dyed yukata from the former Shibayo Family. The first floor features a dining room with a mini kitchen and a bathroom, while the second floor bedroom overlooks the dynamic beams and is equipped with an indigo-dyed yukata and a record player, allowing you to experience the history that has been etched into the Bon Odori dance.
